SUMMARY
This technote covers the basics of connecting e/pop clients to e/pop servers. To connect an e/pop client to an e/pop server you must know the TCP/IP address or hostname of the e/pop server.
Steps
The following steps are used to connect the e/pop client to the e/pop server:
1. Within the e/pop client, select Locations from the menu.
2. Click Add to add a new location. You can have multiple different locations if you connect from different locations such as home and the office.
3. Type a name for the location, click OK.
4. Click Properties to assign a TCP/IP address or DNS/WINs hostname to the location. Type the e/pop server's IP address and click OK.
5. Restart your e/pop client. e/pop will automatically connect to the e/pop server.
Multiple Locations
Multiple locations are useful for mobile e/pop users, such as those with laptops if they connect to an e/pop server from home, the office and even from a hotel room.
In these cases it you will need to create multiple locations that the e/pop user selects when running the program to determine how they connect to the e/pop server.
If you have only a single location, the e/pop client will automatically connect to this location when the program starts. If you have multiple locations, the e/pop client will present a list when you start the program.
MyLocations files
All the location information is maintained in a user's MyLocations.* files in their e/pop directory. You can copy these files to another user's e/pop if both users use the exact same e/pop server.
NOTE: A special command line switch /LOCATION=Office is handled by all the e/pop clients to automatically select a location from a startup shortcut in Windows. This feature is useful if you have more than one location defined in e/pop.
