e/pop Clients
SUMMARY
WiredRed periodically releases updates to enhance and address technical issues with the e/pop clients. The updates are available from WiredRed support page and the main download page.
NOTE: Please see the e/pop Client History or contact e/pop technical support to see if an update is optional, recommended or required for your particular installation.
Overview
Updating the e/pop client is accomplished by replacing all the e/pop application files or just the main e/pop executable file. This technote describes 2 methods for updating the e/pop client. The method you use is dependent on your current e/pop installation so please review each method before you proceed with the update.
Options for updating the e/pop client
If you have administrative options that were set in the e/pop control panel, you should use method 2 (see below).
Method 1
The first method requires you to run the setup program manually on each computer. If you choose this method, you will overwrite all the application files but retain all the settings that were set in the Options menu. The settings in the Options menu are used mainly by the end user and these settings are stored in the registry under the HKey_Current_User section.
Step 1. Run the correct e/pop client setup program on each PC.
NOTE: It is NOT necessary to run through the e/pop Connection Wizard in client/server mode, simply click cancel and it will use your existing server information.
Method 2
The second method is use by companies who distributed e/pop that was customized using the e/pop control panel program.
Step 1. Install the new e/pop update on spare computer or in a separate folder so you don't overwrite the existing e/pop client.
Step 2. Using the e/pop control panel open the pervious version of the e/pop client and export the settings to a .ecp file. (File > Export Settings)
Step 3. Open the e/pop client that was installed in Step 1. and import the settings into it. (File > Import Settings). Note: Global codes do NOT transfer between EXE files if you use this method. You must re-enter the Global code into the new EXE file)
Step 4. Replace the e/pop application files (EXEs and DLLs) with the updated version using a software distribution utility, batch file or copy and overwrite them manually.
Tip: Depending on your initial e/pop deployment, it may not be necessary to distribute all the e/pop application files when you update the e/pop client. Since the majority of the updates are contained in the main e/pop executable file, you may only need to distribute the updated e/pop executable file (epop.exe, epopb.exe or epopa.exe). The information in the revision update page will indicate which files are affected by the update.
