e/pop SMTP Support: Sending one-way messages to SMTP clients

Technote: Q00014
Last Reviewed:
July 30, 2002

The information in this article applies to:
e/pop Professional Client 3.0 Release Build 260 or later
e/pop Basic Client 3.0 Release Build 260 or later

SUMMARY
This technical document details e/pop's ability to send a message to an SMTP account.

This is currently a client-oriented feature. As with all important e/pop features, this feature can be enabled/disabled or removed by the e/pop System Administrator. A future e/pop release will include more substantial capabilities or you can design your own with the e/pop SDK.

The SMTP support currently allows supported e/pop clients to send one-way messages to any device capable of receiving SMTP messages such as PAGERS and CELLULAR TELEPHONES.

WARNING!
SMTP is not a secure protocol. Messages sent to SMTP devices are sent in the clear. This feature is not intended for use in secure applications.
