Configuring feature restrictions and customizing the e/pop client before distributing

e/pop Basic Client 3.0

SUMMARY

This technote covers the basics of configuring feature restrictions and customizing the e/pop client before distributing the e/pop client.

Starting the e/pop Control Panel
The e/pop control panel program contains hundreds of customizations that can be made to the e/pop client application. These changes are embedded into the e/pop client and actually modify the inner workings of the client for the end user. These changes should be done prior to rolling out an e/pop client installation.

1. Click the Help menu, Control Panel.

2. Click Open to open the e/pop program executable you will be modifying.

Limiting feature access
By removing the ability to send particular features you will remove the accessibility to certain features from the end user. To remove features, disable them under the Features - Send section of the e/pop control panel.

However, leaving the ability to receive certain features, under the Features-Receive section, will allow you to still perform these actions against the users who run this e/pop application.

NOTE: It is common for an administrator to operate an e/pop application with the ability to send remote control requests where a user runs a different e/pop application with this ability removed. The administrator's e/pop application has both send and receive for remote control enabled, whereas the user has send disabled and receive enabled for remote control.

Global Security Code
WiredRed recommends all installations implement a global security code in their e/pop client installations. The global security code serves 2 purposes. It password protects changes that are made with the e/pop control panel to the e/pop application from unwanted tampering from end users. Additionally, it secures the communication stream between clients and the e/pop server so only authorized clients with the exact same global security code can communicate with each other.

To embed a global security code, type the code under the Security section of the e/pop control panel.

NOTE: Once the global security code is implemented on the e/pop server, users cannot install a fresh, unmodified e/pop client and attempt to communicate with an existing e/pop installation.
