On-Premise e/pop Web Conferencing Allows Commercial and
Government Customers to Utilize Existing PKI and Security
New Security Features Raise the Bar in Secure Web
Conferencing
for Healthcare, Legal, Finance and Government Organizations
San Diego, California -- December 6, 2004 –
WiredRed®,
a technology leader in enterprise real-time communications software, today
announced that it is now shipping e/pop® Web Conferencing with Secure Socket
Layer (SSL3) and Transport Layer Security (TLS) as standard security
features. The new security features prevent common security breaches such as
spoofing and eavesdropping that could potentially expose highly confidential
corporate financial, personnel and customer information. More importantly,
e/pop now includes new integration points for on-premise Public Key
Infrastructure (PKI). This significantly decreases the chance that highly
sensitive, confidential information is leaked or accessed by the wrong
individuals.
With the addition of SSL3 and TLS security, Bendinger, Crockett, Peterson,
Greenwood & Casey PC, a Salt Lake City, Utah-based corporate law firm
specializing in complex business litigation, can now utilize e/pop Web
Conferencing as a full-featured collaboration system for its attorneys, whom
are located throughout the U.S.
“Until now, we’ve been using e/pop Web Conferencing for internal technical
support purposes,” explained Denney Fifield, the firm’s Information Systems
Manager. “With the addition of SSL/TLS security, e/pop Web Conferencing is
now twice as secure as standard online banking services. I’ve assured our
attorneys that it is more than secure and suitable for reviewing and
collaborating remotely on confidential case file documents and there is
little, if any, chance that the session can be hacked or spoofed from the
public Internet.”
Many other web conferencing products often use different protocols and
separate ports for slide presentations, desktop sharing, audio (VoIP) and
video, creating security, performance and peer-to-peer connection problems.
WiredRed has solved these issues with its Real-Time Routing Platform™ by
delivering the entire conference session, all features included, over a
single port and TCP/IP connection. This yields significant performance
benefits and allows IT managers to secure the entire rich media experience
of all web conferencing features combined without a reduction in
performance.
According to Allen Drennan, WiredRed’s Founder and CTO, the new security
features were added to e/pop Web Conferencing to address concerns in
specific industries where network security is a top priority.
“We believe that WiredRed now offers the most secure web conferencing
software solutions on the market. e/pop Web Conferencing is now much more
compelling to companies and organizations in markets such as healthcare,
finance, government, military and law, that have tight security policies,”
said Drennan. “Security conscious organizations that have hesitated from
using a service, or previous generation software in the past, can now
integrate the application with their internal PKI and rest assured that
e/pop Web Conferencing will meet, and in many cases exceed, internal
security policies.”
Both SSL and TLS are standards-based encryption technologies used to secure
web-based and/or communications in a private network environment. The
addition of SSL and TLS level security to e/pop Web Conferencing provides
RC2, RC4, IDEA, DES, 3DES, AES and RSA encryption as various options to the
SSL/TLS standard and SHA or MD5 hashing for signing. System administrators
can use a standards-based X.509 security certificate provided by companies
such as Verisign, an existing Certificate Authority (CA) within their
company and/or the certificate produced by e/pop Web Conferencing.
