San Diego, California – June 5, 2007 – WiredRed®,
a technology leader in real-time communications software
and online services, today announced that e/pop® Web &
Video Conferencing version 4.6 supports the latest
high-definition devices used in business conferencing
over the Internet. The Company is providing live
demonstrations during Telepresence World in San Diego,
June 4-6. Many high definition (HD) devices, such as the
Sony EVI-HD1, list price $4,495 (USD), were announced
late last year, but are now shipping in quantity. e/pop
is video peripheral agnostic, and customers can
immediately take advantage of the new EVI-HD1 and enjoy
high definition video conferencing across boardrooms and
PC desktops anywhere in the world at a cost far below
the $250,000 price tag commonly associated with
telepresence studios.
e/pop is available as installed software and online
service, and provides a full suite of web and video
conferencing features. e/pop is compatible with all
major USB webcams and Microsoft DirectShow™ (WDM)
compatible video equipment. In particular, WiredRed
successfully tested the Sony EVI-HD1 just now hitting
the market, with stunning video quality rivaling
specialized boardroom systems costing tens of thousands
of dollars, and telepresence studios costing hundreds of
thousands each.
By taking advantage of major advances in video
peripheral hardware and ever more powerful PCs, e/pop
software is able to optimize live online meetings among
multiple participants, on mixed-speed connections and
different video devices. This effectively overcomes a
major obstacle facing telepresence adoption: you can
only connect to like systems.
“With e/pop high definition you can connect anyone,
anywhere over public or private networks, whereas other
HD solutions are usually restricted to private
connections and other sites with the same equipment,”
said Allen Drennan, WiredRed Founder and Chief
Technology Officer. “Moreover, e/pop includes built-in
web conferencing features like presentation sharing,
desktop sharing and whiteboarding normally required for
real working meetings that go beyond a video
introduction,” he added.
The advent of EVI-HD1 quantity shipments is also
blurring the distinctions between categories:
telepresence studios, boardroom systems and even desktop
video conferencing solutions can now all enjoy
HD-quality video. Desktop users opting for USB webcams
and standard Internet connections can benefit from
multiparty, fractional or full-screen conferencing, but
those with DS3 connections (megabits per second Internet
service) can see astonishing, lifelike high-definition
video. Moreover, the conference host can connect with
any other desktop using combinations of HD, 720p, 1080i,
enhanced definition, traditional 352 (CIF) or 640x480
(VGA) format as each user’s video peripheral and
Internet connection permits.
The Sony EVI-HD1 is a high-definition, pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ)
color video camera. The
EVI-HD1 inherits many outstanding features from the
popular D70 and D100 cameras and couples these with
superb HD picture quality. The HD1 employs a 1/3-type HD
CMOS image sensor boasting two million effective pixels
and can be used in combination with any number of codecs,
and other systems to produce high-quality,
high-resolution images. HD signaling system options
include 1080/50i, 1080/25p, 720/50p, 720/25p among
others, plus standard definition (SD) signaling in NTSC
and PAL. When mated to a Microsoft DirectShow compatible
video capture card and e/pop software, the camera
produces high-resolution video display in these HD
formats, plus SD, CIF, QCIF.
